Hello,

I am Fallen Wish, and just joined ShowCats.com (yay!). What should I do? I read the Help Center and Site Rules, which did help, but I don't know what breed to get or if I should even get my starter cats! Any help and/or breed suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi Wish!! Welcome to ShowCats!!
What you do depends greatly on what you are interested in, and how much time and effort you plan to put into the game.
Generally, starter cats are of mediocre quality at best, and are best used by people wanting to inject 'fresh' blood into their existing lines.
My suggestion to friends who have started playing the game is to check show results for a few days, looking at the quality of the kitties showing, then buy a one or two 'good' kittens or young cats and show them for awhile until you decide if they are what you like, or if there's a different breed you want to play with.
As for which breed, there are several breeds that have few cats/breeders who could use more breeders, which also have very little competition (and possibly few kitties to buy/breed to), or you could go with more popular breeds with lots of cats available for sale/stud, which also have a great deal of competition.
And no matter which way you go, you can always decide later to do something different... happy :)
The only thing is that if you stay a 'basic' (free) user, you only get to have ONE litter of kittens, and you are limited to 5 show-age cats.

But there's no reason you can't stay basic and buy and show and sell kitties for as long as you want. If/when you decide to upgrade, you can have more cats and more breedings... (but you prolly know that from the rules already)

Again, welcome!!! If you have more questions, feel free to PM me or ask everyone in the forums.
Take care,
Mary happy :)

Welcome to ShowCats. ^.^

Thanks so much for already reading the Help Center and the Site Rules. You've made several us very happy. (Myself, included.) Another link that you might find helpful is the "Getting Started" link that will be at the top of your main page for your first 2weeks. (It's also located under "Sim Tools" on the sidebar -> Beginner's Key.) There's some random information there but most people find it helpful.

As for choosing your breed(s)...There is a "Breed Difficulty" on the sidebar. Clicking on any of the breed links there will show how many cats are in the breed, how many people are showing/have cats, and if the breed can outcross or not. For breeds in need, the "Rare Accounts" link has a list of 5 breeds (changing daily) that are in need of help.

If you're interested in seeing what any of the breeds look like, you can find most of them at the CFA Website (www.cfa.org/breeds.html) and find the others at TICA's website (tica.org/public/breeds.php ).

Again, welcome & I hope you enjoy your stay. ^.^

Thank you both for the advice. I did read the "Getting Started" link in my cattery. I think I am going to be finishing cattery, at first. I want to get used to how this site runs and operates. If and when I get a premie account, I think I want to specialize in Ragamuffins.

Welcome to SC! I think being a finishing cattery is a great idea, since it's a great way to earn a profit. If you need help, feel free to PM me or any one of the friendly users that you will find here.
